Just as the Internet has made it easy for you to locate employment opportunities outside of your local area, today’s technology has made it possible for employers to conduct “face-to-face” interviews without the need to travel.
Interview on Demand is an exciting new service that allows hiring managers and recruiters to “connect” via video interviews. The interview is recorded using a web cam, enabling your virtual resume to be reviewed at the discretion of the interviewer as often as he / she likes. The system offers other benefits to hiring companies:
- No need to take time from busy workdays to conduct interviews.
- Informed hiring decisions are easily rendered, as the videos can be repeatedly viewed.
- Scheduling hassles are virtually eliminated.
The popularity of the video interview is on the rise! So, as a job seeker, you will want to be prepared. First, find yourself a certified professional resume writer to prepare your traditional resume and provide you with job interview coaching.
Here are some strategies unique to a video interview that you may find helpful:
- Arrange to take the interview in an uncluttered setting with a solid background if possible.
- Eliminate room noises, including the shuffling of papers, which may be magnified by the web cam microphone.
- Pretend that the camera is a person, making eye contact and speaking directly to your virtual interviewer.
Video interviews are often considered less stressful than live interviews. After all, you could be in the comfort of your own home. However, if you are uncomfortable speaking in front of a camera, you’ll probably want to do a few practice runs before recording the final product. Have fun with it!
